Lecture: Introduction to The New Hakomi Method
By Ron Kurtz

$5.00 - 20.00 Suggested donation, everyone welcome

Presentation Description:

In this evening's presentation, Ron will discuss the foundations of his method of assisted self-study, a refinement of his original Hakomi Method, and he will demonstrate its power with a few brief exercises for the entire group.

The method is the first fully developed, body-centered, mindfulness-based psychotherapy. It is a method that utilizes mindfulness and emphasizes loving presence, nonverbal awareness, and self-discovery. The process is highly interactive; it requires people willing to engage in "little experiments" designed to evoke self-awareness.

Ron has great faith in the power of people to heal emotional wounds. As he has said, "The impulse to heal is real and powerful and lies within the client. The therapist's job is to evoke that healing power, to meet its tests and needs and to support it in its expression and development. We are not the healers. We are the context in which healing is inspired."

Presenter's Biography:

Ron Kurtz is the creator and master practitioner of the Hakomi Method, the first fully developed body-centered, mindfulness-based psychotherapy. In recognition of his unique contribution, Ron Kurtz was the recipient of the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award, given by the United States Association of Body Psychotherapists. Ron continues to develop and refine the Hakomi method from his home base in Ashland, Oregon, and has begun defining what he calls the New Hakomi Method of Assisted Self-Discovery.

Ron Kurtz is the author three influential books: Body-Centered Psychotherapy: The Hakomi Method: The Integrated Use of Mindfulness, Nonviolence and the Body; Grace Unfolding: Psychotherapy in the Spirit of Tao-te ching; and The Body Reveals: An Illustrated Guide to the Psychology of the Body.

Ron has led hundreds of trainings and workshops around the world over the past 30 years. His work and writing are informed not only by Taoist and Buddhist principles, but also by the most recent discoveries of neuroscience, and the scientific understanding of emotional processes. His New Hakomi Method concentrates on the multidimensionality of the person as a living, complex whole, and on the spontaneous unfolding of healing processes.
