Lecture: How to find Meaning in Life according to Viktor E. Frankl, renowned author of "Man's Search for Meaning"
By Marion Assenmacher

$5.00 - 20.00 Suggested donation, everyone welcome

Presentation Description:

Viktor Frankl, M.D., Ph.D., taught at the University of Vienna, Austria. His Logotherapy (Greek logos = meaning) has been applied with patients with unique success for over 50 years, and is currently taught at Universities and in post-graduate programs in 15 countries around the world.

Viktor Frankl's psychologically and philosophically based theory holds that our primary drive in life is not pleasure, but the discovery and pursuit of what we personally find meaningful. We are by nature self-transcendent beings, oriented towards the world outside of ourselves, and we are looking to actualize values through creation, experience and attitude. Life offers a unique meaning to each of us in each moment of our lives. Our part is to find and fulfill that meaning.

Frankl introduced the spiritual dimension of human beings into academic and practical psychology. He was the first (as early as 1929) and most fervent advocate for an image of man in psychology that includes freedom of will, self-transcendence, the search for meaning, and the basic human desire for inspiration and connection to ultimate truth or the divine.

In this presentation you will learn how to use Viktor Frankl's basic thoughts to find meaning in your life in every situation. The talk will also address how we can make plans for our lives in a way that greatly enhances our chances for fulfillment, success and true happiness.

Presenter's Biography:

Marion Assenmacher, M.A., studied the Science of Education in Germany. Learning about Viktor Frankl's theories she immediately recognized his value as one of the few psychologists, who bridge from our psychological needs to our spiritual dimension as human beings.

For her masters thesis she developed a questionnaire and investigated how our sense of fulfillment is related to relevant aspects of our life goals.

With Viktor Frankl being Austrian and having published 32 books in German, while there are only 6 books by him available in English, Marion feels blessed that she was in the position to do a 3-year post-graduate education at a Viktor Frankl Institute in Germany. In 1995 she graduated in Frankl's meaning and value centered approach to human motivation, fulfillment and psychotherapy as an internationally certified Logotherapist (Greek logos = meaning).

Marion has facilitated workshops on Viktor Frankl's approach in Germany and is now focusing on getting the word out in the Rogue Valley about Viktor Frankl's theory on how to find meaning in life. She beliefs that even a basic knowledge of his theory can have a tremendously beneficial impact on your life.

She is giving a series of talks to diverse audiences, from high-school students in Eagle Point to retirees in our local retirement communities. Marion is also offering workshops for those who would like to get an even more practical, hands-on training in how to apply Viktor Frankl's findings in their lives. Her workshops integrate spirituality with psychology, and playfully create an experience of finding meaning, that is deeply fulfilling and inherently transformative.
