Presentation Description:

The Children of the Sun: Musings on the Winter Solstice with Richard Moeschl followed by Astrology in Ashland's winter party and get-together

Please join us as Richard Moeschl considers how we have related to this seasonal phenomena in the past and its continual relevance for our present and future.

Following Richard's talk, stay for our annual holiday gathering where we provide free drinks and seasonal treats, and an opportunity to socialize.

Richard Moeschl is the author of the astronomy book "Exploring the Sky" published by Chicago Review Press. He taught astronomy at Elderhostel and onboard educational cruise ships to Alaska and was president of the NightStar company which produced star maps. Richard founded and is Executive Director of Horizon Institute which explores the relationship between science, spirituality and the humanities. Richard is the Arts and Entertainment Editor of the Mail Tribune and the Ashland Daily Tidings and writes the weekly column "Bemused." A playwright, Richard won the 2006 Oregon Book Award for Drama for his play "Arthur's Dreams" which was produced in Ashland at Oregon Stage Works. He is married, has two sons and four grandchildren. He is often invited to lecture on the connections between astronomy and the celebration of seasonal festivals.
