Exploring the Worlds of Lucid Dreaming
By Ed Kellogg, Ph.D

All Tuesday evening events
at RVML are free admission!

Presentation Description:

Many researchers define a lucid dream as one in which dreamers realize, however vaguely, that they dream while they dream. However, in dream-life as in waking-life, lucidity ranges across a continuum, and may depend on a number of factors. These include the ability to think clearly, the ability to remember, the power to control the dream, the feeling of embodiment, reality tone or vividness, the emotional content of the dream, and the sense of self of the dreamer. By looking at the degree to which a dreamer has made covert assumptions overt, and at the degree to which a dreamer can act on this knowledge, one can evaluate dreams on a scale that runs the gamut from ordinary dreaming to super-lucidity. The presentation will include a series of Śmaps of consciousness‚ that illustrate the differences between many different kinds of both lucid and non-lucid dreams, and will also touch upon methods of promoting lucidity, controlling dream phenomena, and of exploring different areas of paranormal dreaming such as precognition, remote viewing, dream magic, and dream healing.

Presenter's Biography:

Ed Kellogg earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Duke University for work investigating the role of free radicals and singlet oxygen in the aging process. He has published numerous papers on his work in fields as diverse as the biochemistry of aging, bioelectricity, general semantics, lucid dreaming, voluntary controls, and the phenomenology of consciousness.

He has published his scientific work in a variety of peer reviewed journals such as the J. Neurochemistry, the J. Biological Chemistry, the J. Gerontology, Nature, Photochemistry and Photobiology, Toxicology Letters, the J. Bioelectricity, and the International Journal of Biometeorology.

He has presented papers and workshops on dream related topics at many Association for the Study of Dreams conferences, and also in other conference venues (The Lucidity Association, The Society for Phenomenology and the Humanistic Sciences, and the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback).

He has published papers in the J. Lucid Dream Research, the Dream Network Bulletin, the Lucidity Letter, The Lucidity Exchange, and in ASD's Dream Time.

A proficient lucid dreamer himself, Ed has studied lucid dreaming and its applications for over 20 years from the "inside-out", and has a long-standing interest in the phenomenology of dreaming. Ed has experienced hundreds of fully lucid dreams and has recorded and indexed over 15,000 of his dreams. Ed hosts ASD's Paranormal Phenomena Forum, http://www.asdreams.org/telepathy/, and last Fall organized and hosted their highly successful First Online PsiberDreaming Conference.

In his workshops he teaches practical methods for bringing full waking consciousness into ones dreams, for controlling dream reality, and in exploring the outer limits of lucid dreaming. He has presented numerous papers and workshops on topics such as the lucidity continuum, lucid dream healing, lucid dream incubation, lucid mutual dreaming, out-of-body experiences, and the use of magic in lucid dream reality.

(Note: Ed will give a one day workshop on lucid dreaming on Saturday, May 31st, 2003 in the meeting room at the Ashland Food Cooperative. If you want to attend, you may want to make a reservation in advance. Space limited to 25 participants.)

In respect to his own work, Ed writes: " I take a phenomenological approach to dreaming, in which I try to explore and to describe dreaming experience with a minimum of presuppositions as to its nature. This can prove far more difficult and complicated than many might imagine! The ASD website has the most easily accessible material of my work, through the various papers and abstracts I've posted on ASD's Paranormal Phenomena Forum.
