Lecture: Light on the Origins of Reiki- New Information from Japan on the Original Simplicity and Fascinating use of Reiki

Presentation Description:
Many people know and use Reiki, but few have access to the kind of history and experience that the Yamaguchi family have. Chiyoko Yamaguchi learned Reiki at age 17 in 1938 from Chujiro Hayashi, one of the original 20 teachers of Shin shin kaizen Usui Reiki Ryoho (Usui Reiki treatment method for the improvement of body and mind). She used Reiki on a daily basis, treating everything from minor injuries to major health conditions as all her family did, until she passed on in 2003. Amanda Jayne was lucky enough to meet and study for 1 year with Chiyoko Yamaguchi, continuing her studies with Chiyoko's son and eventually teaching alongside him in Europe and Japan.
Amanda will be giving a presentation on the origins of Reiki and how it was adopted by the Japanese Navy at one time. She will be showing rare photographs of Usui and Hayashi from 1920s and 1930s and discuss the fascinating history of the Yamaguchi family and their incredible treatment experience.
Originally Reiki was much simpler than the Reiki we see today, yet extremely powerful. As Reiki spread to the West, much was lost and some things added. Chiyoko Yamaguchi found that the emphasis Usui and Hayashi had placed on certain elements was also different.
To explain some of this, Tadao Yamaguchi has written a book titled, 'Light on the Origins of Reiki' and has given Amanda Jayne permission to pass this information on to others through presentations and seminars.

Presenter's Biography:
Having long been interested in health and wellness Amanda Jayne comes from a background of working in the field of mental health. Becoming disillusioned with the treatment methods she saw around her, Amanda decided to study alternative methods of helping people regain physical and mental health and change their attitude toward life. In 2002 Amanda met the Yamaguchi family by chance and knew instantly that she wanted to study Reiki with them. Living in Kyoto, Japan, she studied Jikiden Reiki for nearly 4 years, becoming a Shihan (teacher) of Reiki and teaching alongside Tadao Yamaguchi in Europe and Japan.
Co-translating the book, 'The Hayashi Reiki Manual' by Tadao Yamaguchi and Frank Arjava Petter enabled Amanda to further her understanding of this simple, extremely effective healing method and led to her contributing two short sections in Tadao Yamaguchi's latest book, 'Light on the Origins of Reiki' published by Lotus Press.
Amanda is currently studying for a Masters degree in Spiritual Psychology at the University of Santa Monica.

Each class is 90 minutes long and includes people from all over the world calling in with questions. Dominic Allamano is a passionate and potent voice of the emerging visionary generation, inspiring others to shine their light brightly by boldly and humbly shining his. Since his late teens, when he began to see clearly following life altering physical trauma, he has focused his energies in two interrelated realms. Lecture: Life in Auroville and Findhorn Communities- A Look at 40 Years of Intentional Community Experience and Development

Since 1988 Olivier Hetzel has lived and worked in the Auroville community in southern India. Founded in 1968 and based on the teachings of Sri Aurobindo, Auroville, with a current population of about 2000 people from around the world, is the only community with endorsements from UNESCO. This year Auroville celebrated its 40th anniversary with the completion of its spiritual center, the Matrimandir, and is on the brink of a new phase of its development. In a much colder part of the world Pamala Joy lived at the Findhorn Foundation in the highlands of Scotland.
Begun in 1962 by three people steeped in spiritual teachings and following "the still small voice within" of Eileen Caddy, Findhorn is a sister community to Auroville. Known for its direct connection to the nature kingdom and called the greenest village in Britain in terms of environmental practices, Findhorn today is recognized as a potent influential voice, recognized as an NGO through the United Nations. Though a much smaller community, with only about one tenth the population of Auroville and much less acreage, Findhorn has a dynamic program for the hundreds of visitors that continue to make the long trip there from all parts of the globe, hoping to find new meaning and direction in their lives.
Olivier and Pamala met recently in Auroville, where they recognized their shared interests in community life, performance, alternative healing, complementary currency systems, communication, and creating new possibilities for planetary change.
Together they offer an opportunity to explore the positive and not-so-positive aspects of living in an intentional community, to look at two of the world's most famous communities from an insider's perspective, and to discuss the potential for increasing community interaction and involvement here in Ashland.
Presenter's Biography:
Pamala Joy, a resident of Ashland since 1992, first journeyed to Findhorn in 1979 and spent most of the 80's there with her family. Since leaving in 1989, she has been a Findhorn Resource person and has been back to visit several times, including a five week stay in the spring of last year. She has also lived in and had experience with other intentional communities, including two communities of artists in central London and a recent stay in Auroville. Here in Ashland, she has been involved in a wide range of community activities and projects, including mentoring teens and promoting the arts. Since 1996 she has co-ordinated the Food for People project which collects and distributes food and household items to hundreds of people weekly throughout the Rogue Valley.
Olivier Hetzel, originally from France, is a creative entrepreneur, alternative economist, self-taught architect and builder, dancer, healer, long time meditator and jack of all trades. He has been developing and managing the Auroville Cheese Farm company for 20 years, and is the initiator of the ACCESS project, a complementary currency exchange system for the Auroville bio-region. He has recently written "The Future of Economy," a booklet elaborating a new concept of seven different levels of economics for intentional communities. He practices energy healing and body consciousness yoga, and gives body awareness and dancing exploration coaching for personal growth and development.

Western Medical practices have increasingly targeted symptoms of disease and illness and moved away from treating the whole person. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) aims to instead treat the root of an ailment, to balance the body, mind and spirit and allow for deep, sustainable healing. At a time when so many people are waking up to unhealthy practices within our culture (fast food, global warming, toxins…) there's a willingness to explore other options-we propose the best ones aren't necessarily new. TCM, a system of healing based on over 3000 years of practice and observation, has stood the test of time. It's gaining popularity in our country due to its ability to manage pain and provide relief from chronic issues such as: insomnia, headaches, allergies, diarrhea/constipation, lowered immunity, fatigue, depression/anxiety, irregular menstruation, menopause, acid reflux, arthritis, cancer, stoke, high blood pressure, etc., all with few to no side effects.

Money is about to undergo a fundamental evolutionary step into community currencies. Conventional money as we know it has a built in architecture that leads to scarcity and centralization, and is not appropriate for dealing with today's global systemic challenges. Just as there are now millions of media outlets, currencies will follow this same evolution by shifting from centralized authoritative models to distributed ones that generate sustainability, and can handle to complexity of the modern world. Communities of all types will then be able to create their own currencies for their own marketplace and thereby liberate their wealth potential. This will become the most important evolution for society in the coming years.
As we can see from this introduction to an international seminar on alternative economics, leading researchers on financial models for the future agree that a profound mutation is underway. How can we recognize the morphing structures of new socio-economic systems? How can we start using them in our everyday lives, assimilate and propagate new concepts for generating and exchanging real wealth, therefore participating in the transformation of the new world order rather than being subjected to it.

Olivier Hetzel, originally from France, is a creative entrepreneur, alternative economist, self-taught architect and builder, dancer, healer, long time meditator and jack of all trades. He has been developing and managing the Auroville Cheese Farm company for 20 years, and is the initiator of the ACCESS project, a complementary currency exchange system for the Auroville bio-region. He has recently written "The Future of Economy," a booklet elaborating a new concept of seven different levels of economics for intentional communities. He practices energy healing and body consciousness yoga, and gives body awareness and dancing exploration coaching for personal growth and development.

Ruth is also active in the Rogue Valley Interfaith Ministries group that meets monthly in Ashland and coordinates two interfaith services a year, one on Thanksgiving and one on Earth Day weekend.
