Free Lecture: Transforming to Authenticity: Shadow, Defense Mechanisms and Self-Love
With Dr. Zan. E. Nix & Marla Estes, M.A.

LOCATION: Ashland Food Co-op Community Classroom 195 A Street, Ashland, Oregon (2 blocks north of RVML)

Free admission, donations welcome.

Presentation Description:

What effect do Defense Mechanisms and Shadow have on our capacity to love ourselves and express our authenticity?

It is said that "defense mechanisms are the glue that hold the false self together." In the search for our own authenticity and wholeness, our Shadow needs to be invited in. Our shadow aspects are often protected by our unconscious and automatic defense mechanisms. In order to enter into this territory, we need self-love to support ourselves with tenderness and compassion through whatever fear, pain and vulnerability that may arise. And the paradox is that we come to love ourselves through embracing our shadow! How do we begin to tease apart the strands of this Gordian Knot?

Join Dr. Zan. E. Nix and Marla Estes, M.A. for this free talk, a psycho-spiritual exploration of the intriguing mysteries of the interrelationship between shadow, defenses and love.

FREE ADMISSION - Intended for people 18-32 years old

Description:

In this interactive forum, participants gain an ever-broadening understanding about leading-edge, new paradigm ideas shaping the world's future.

What is our purpose for existence? Where did we come from? What are our ways of knowing? What is the triune nature of mind? What is the future?

Facilitators' Biography:

Dominic Allamano is a passionate and potent voice of the emerging visionary generation, inspiring others to shine their light brightly by boldly and humbly shining his. Since his late teens, when he began to see clearly following life altering physical trauma, he has focused his energies in two interrelated realms. The first is the realms of experiential education and explorations of the embodiment of consciousness, while the second is in a deep exploration of the sociological and systemic elements of the dominant world culture. The merging of these two realms has allowed him to perceive many of the key patterns and dynamics that define today's world and hold the promise for tomorrow's.

He feels called to be as a midwife to the emerging culture, assisting both in its birth and development as well as in the navigation of the unforeseen consequences of humanity's past choices, which are defining the context for that emergence. Through extensive travels and speaking around the Pacific Northwest he has aligned with an inspired network of allies with whom he is crafting new paradigm networks and tools like the WorldCrafter's Network (http://www.worldcrafters.org) and CultureSeed (http://www.cultureseed.org) to support the emergence of this new culture.

Lecture and Discussion: Conversations about Love
By Marla Estes, MA

$5.00 to $10.00 suggested donation, everyone welcome.

Presentation Description:

The Paradox of Relationship: "I alone must become myself; I cannot become myself alone." -Pittman Mcgeehee

Join us in our on-going conversation about Love. Tonight's topic will be Narcissism. What is narcissism? What does it serve? Is it "healthy" or "unhealthy"? How might it get in the way of loving? What might the relationship be between narcissism and spirituality? What do thinkers such as Stephen Johnson, Thomas Moore, Erich Fromm, Cyprian Smith and Idries Shah have to say about it?

Please join us to discuss these and other mysteries, weaving in psychological, Jungian, and sociological concepts. Our discussion will focus on relationship as a process instead of as a goal. Through this examination, we have the opportunity to bring more clarity, understanding and awareness to both our conscious and unconscious ideas of love with the possibility of making room for new ones to emerge.

Lecture and Discussion: Conversations about Love
By Marla Estes, MA

$5.00 to $10.00 suggested donation, everyone welcome.

Presentation Description:

The Paradox of Relationship: "I alone must become myself; I cannot become myself alone." -Pittman Mcgeehee

In this on-going conversation, we explore Love in its different facets, the dark as well as the light, its highs and its lows, the psychological as well as the spiritual, the sociological as well as the personal.

**What happens when you depend on romantic relationship for your sense of aliveness?* *

Tonight's topic is Love and Loss. Do we defend ourselves against love to
avoid the pain of its loss? Why might it be "better to have loved and
lost, then to never have loved at all"? How do we live with the cruel
irony that once we go through the process of really coming to love
someone for who she or he really is - to move beyond fantasy,
projections, disillusionment, and even co-dependence - that they will
die? What connection might be made between love, death and faith? In
part, we will refer to C.S. Lewis' experiences of moving from grief to
growth.

"… [this is God's] grand enterprise. To make an organism which is also a
spirit; to make that terrible oxymoron, a 'spiritual animal.' To take a
poor primate, a beast with nerve endings all over it, a creature with a
stomach that wants to be filled, a breeding animal that wants its mate,
and say, 'Now get on with it. Become a god.'"

- C.S. Lewis

Please join us to discuss these mysteries, weaving in psychological,
Jungian, and sociological concepts. Our discussion will focus on
relationship as a process instead of as a goal. Through this
examination, we have the opportunity to bring more clarity,
understanding and awareness to both our conscious and unconscious ideas
of love with the possibility of making room for new ones to emerge.
